Fun Facts About Purple Sweet Potato ▼
- Purple sweet potatoes get their striking violet color from anthocyanins — the same antioxidant pigments found in blueberries and red cabbage.
- They originated in Central and South America and have been cultivated for thousands of years, later becoming a staple in Japan and Okinawa.
- Okinawa, Japan — famous for its high number of centenarians — has long featured purple sweet potato (beni-imo) as a dietary staple.
- Unlike regular sweet potatoes, purple varieties hold their color remarkably well during cooking, making them ideal for natural food coloring.
- Purple sweet potato powder is used in traditional Japanese sweets like taro mochi and ube-inspired confections across Asia.
Please note: Natural color variations may occur between batches and harvests. This is normal for 100% natural products and reflects the authentic, unprocessed nature of our purple sweet potato powder.

Perfect color for making my fresh pasta colored! A little goes a longggg way so even though the package is small it lasts many uses!
Okay, so you get the ube powder. It's the beautiful purple color I love with the nutty taste I was looking for. My issue with the powder is that it is hard to not get lumps. This would be perfectly fine if I only bought this to take with or to use as food coloring, but because I bought this to make ube latte's I need the texture to be right.
wife uses this to mix with her sourdough
make a nice taste & color
I recommend... one star less due to price for a small bag
I add this to my coffee and protein shake. It's so good! It blends well with anything. Thank you!
